Arnold was born into a middle-class Victorian home–his father was Thomas Arnold, a minister and famous headmaster credited with influencing the English educational curriculum at that time. Arnold won a scholarship to attend Oxford, graduating in 1844. Literature and Science, published in September 1963, was Aldous Huxley's last book - he died two months after it was published.
