WebWith a national vaccination programme underway for the novel COVID-19 pandemic, we feel it important to highlight this case in which there is a likely temporal association between vaccination and reactivation of herpes simplex keratitis, more than 40 years since the patient’s last episode. Case presentation WebOct 2, 2024 · As COVID 19 decreases the cell-mediated immunity, it could also increase the risk of herpes zoster (HZ). Although the exact reason remains unsolved, vaccine-induced immunomodulation caused by live attenuated vaccines and attenuated alloreactivity caused by inactivated vaccines may be responsible mechanisms for the reactivation of HZ.
